Stroud School of Weaving

The aim of the weaving school is for you to be able to work on your own project, once you have had the support and gained the confidence to work out what this might be; from working on a table loom and weaving something to wear or a tapestry frame and experimenting with materials. There are rules to weaving, but we can negotiate these creatively.

Once you start to become confident, you will have access to the studio we can work out a schedule that suits you. You will also have the support of other weavers coming in to work on their projects.

The Studio is located at the Centre for Science and Art, 13 Lansdown, Stroud GL5 1BB

I will be coming in several days a week, presently:

Fridays: 12pm - 5pm

Saturdays: 11am - 4pm

There will be a subscription fee for access to the studio, use of a loom and tuition. Yarns will be available to get you started.

I have been teaching in many colleges among them Canterbury foundation level,  Central St Martins and Goldsmiths degree level and a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art M.A. Also, working along side Bedouin Weavers in Egypt, traditional cloth weavers in Ethiopia and artisan basket makers in Kenya.

All this experience I would like to bring to the Stroud School of Weaving along and plan to bring in other experts for talks and events.

Stroud has a long history of weaving which is still very evident today. The five valleys that lead into Stroud are full of textile mills, which The Textile Trust open the doors to visitors to tell the historical story of these mills and the area once famous for weaving the Stroud Red cloth.
